ABSECON, N.J. — A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a foot chase along U.S. Route 30 after being stopped by police for improperly crossing the highway, according to the Absecon Police Department.
Officers initially stopped Gregory J. Ganski III, 24, of Williamstown, N.J., at approximately 1 p.m. for the traffic violation. During the stop, Ganski provided false information in an attempt to avoid a summons, police said. When officers determined the information was false, they attempted to arrest him.
Ganski fled on foot, leading police on a pursuit during which he discarded a magazine from a firearm, authorities reported. He was apprehended and found to be in possession of a handgun.
Further investigation revealed that Ganski had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. One officer was injured during the chase and required hospitalization.
Ganski was taken into custody and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. He faces several weapons-related charges in addition to charges related to his outstanding warrants.
