UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A Michigan man visiting friends in Maryland unexpectedly found himself $150,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery ticket in Prince George’s County. The out-of-state player, who regularly buys multiple scratch-offs, selected a $150,000 Extreme instant ticket during a stop at a gas station in Upper Marlboro.
The man, who has played the lottery for two decades, was shocked when he scratched off the second $150,000 top prize in the $10 game. “I was a bit shocked,” he said, adding that he didn’t immediately know how to react.
He quickly called his wife to share the news and claimed his prize last week at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The winner, who plans to use the money to pay off his mortgage and college loans, expressed his gratitude for the unexpected windfall.
The $150,000 Extreme game, which debuted in March, still has three remaining top prizes and numerous other smaller prizes available. Xtra Fuels, the retailer located at 15009 Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro, received a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
