ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Automated speed cameras were activated today in designated school zones on Hydraulic Road, according to the Albemarle County Police Department. The initiative aims to ensure that speed limits are strictly adhered to, enhancing the safety of children traveling to and from school.
The department announced that for the first 45 days, violators caught by the cameras will receive warning notices only. This period is intended to increase driver awareness and encourage compliance with speed limits in these critical areas.
The new program is part of the county’s broader efforts to reduce speed-related crashes, particularly in zones where children are most at risk. Police emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits, noting that the cameras will play a crucial role in protecting students.
More information about the program can be found on the Albemarle County Police Department’s website.
