QUEENS, N.Y. — A 35-year-old man was assaulted and robbed early Monday morning at the 82 Street-Jackson Heights subway station on the “7” line, according to police. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on the mezzanine level of the station.
The victim reported to police that he witnessed two unidentified individuals assaulting another male on the mezzanine level. When he attempted to call 911, the attackers turned their attention to him, forcibly taking his phone.
The assailants then attempted to push the victim down a staircase within the station. When he managed to escape to the street level, they pursued him and began punching him. The attackers fled the scene shortly after, and their whereabouts are currently unknown.
The victim sustained minor injuries in the attack but refused medical attention. Police are investigating the incident and have not yet identified the suspects.
“This kind of violent behavior will not be tolerated, and we are actively working to bring those responsible to justice,” the NYPD said in a statement. Authorities are reviewing security footage from the station and surrounding areas to gather more information.
