This morning’s commute in New Jersey is experiencing several significant disruptions. As of 8:03 a.m., there’s a crash with injuries on the US 46 westbound ramp to northbound NJ 23 in Wayne Township, resulting in the closure of the left lane. Commuters should expect delays in the area.
Earlier at 7:17 a.m., a water main break on NJ 7 in Kearny south of CR 507/Schuyler Avenue led to the closure of all lanes for repairs, with alternating traffic in the southbound lane. Travelers should anticipate congestion and allow extra time.
In New York, construction combined with a water main break on Cargo Plaza has all lanes closed and detoured between 150th Avenue and Center Cargo Road since 5:25 a.m., causing additional travel headaches.
For those heading into the city, there are delays on the George Washington Bridge as of 8:11 a.m. The upper level eastbound on the New Jersey side in Fort Lee is seeing travel times between 25 to 30 minutes from Interstate 95 at Interstate 80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge. The lower level is slightly better with a travel time of 20 to 25 minutes.
Garden State Parkway drivers are also encountering slowdowns. As of 7:55 a.m., southbound traffic is delayed at Exit 130B-A for US 1 in Woodbridge Township due to volume. Northbound drivers are facing a three-mile delay from north of Exit 147 in East Orange to north of Exit 150 in Nutley Township as of 7:49 a.m.
The Holland Tunnel is also seeing delays as of 7:53 a.m., with the eastbound trip from the New Jersey side taking about 20 minutes from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C, and 15 minutes from NJ 139 at Tonnelle Circle.
US 46 westbound is moving slowly from CR 640/Riverview Drive in Totowa to west of NJ 23/Old Turnpike Road in Wayne Township with a travel time of less than 5 minutes as of 7:45 a.m. Meanwhile, NJ 139 lower eastbound from Tonnelle Avenue to Jersey Avenue in Jersey City and the Pulaski Skyway northbound between Broadway and Manhattan Avenue are also reporting travel times of less than 5 minutes as of 7:37 a.m. and 7:36 a.m., respectively.
US 1&9 northbound is seeing heavy traffic from south of Bergen Boulevard in Palisades Park to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee with a travel time of 10 to 15 minutes as of 7:35 a.m. Additionally, delays continue on the New Jersey Turnpike/I-95 express lanes northbound from north of Exit 71 for NJ 4/Broad Avenue in Englewood to the George Washington Bridge with a 1.5-mile delay reported since 6:55 a.m. due to congestion on the bridge itself.
In Newark, NJ 21 southbound between Riverside Avenue and Wright Street and NJ 21 northbound between Wright Street and Clay Street/Mount Pleasant Avenue are both experiencing delays, with current travel times of 10 to 15 minutes as of 6:55 a.m. and 6:54 a.m., respectively.
Commuters are advised to plan accordingly and consider alternate routes where possible.
