NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety has announced several street closures in anticipation of the City of Newark’s Brazilian Festival, scheduled to take place this weekend. According to Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé, the closures will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, and remain in effect until 11 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The following streets will be closed during the festival:
- Niagara Street between Ferry Street and Hensler Street
- Chambers Street between Ferry Street and Clover Street
Attendees are advised that within the festival area, certain restrictions will be enforced. Bicycles, scooters, and e-scooters will not be permitted. Additionally, backpacks, large and small bags, coolers, and carriages may be subject to search. Alcohol is also prohibited within the festival grounds.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan alternate routes to avoid the affected areas. The Newark Department of Public Safety will provide updates as necessary throughout the event.
