UTICA, N.Y. — On August 22, 2024, a victim reported to the Utica Police Department that she had been sexually assaulted on two separate occasions within the past week by a male known to her. According to the victim, both encounters were non-consensual.
Following the report, on August 23, 2024, Utica Police officers located the suspect, Shayne Cavanaugh, 36, of Utica, at his residence. Cavanaugh was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Utica Police Department.
Cavanaugh has been charged with Rape in the First Degree. The case remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to gather further evidence related to the allegations.
