CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — A routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 in Cortlandville led to the arrest of two Syracuse men on felony drug charges, according to the New York State Police.
The incident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on August 25 when a state trooper noticed a vehicle traveling without its rear taillights illuminated. Upon conducting the stop, the trooper’s investigation revealed drug paraphernalia and a significant quantity of illicit drugs inside the vehicle.
Police reported the discovery of 110 bricks of heroin, with a combined weight exceeding eight ounces. In addition, two containers of cannabis wax and approximately three ounces of cannabis were found.
The two men from Syracuse were subsequently arrested and charged with the felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, the felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, and the misdemeanor of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree.
The New York State Police emphasized the importance of vigilance during traffic stops, noting that even routine encounters can uncover serious criminal activity.
