FRANKLIN, N.J. — A 31-year-old Skillman man was found dead on Saturday after his car crashed and became submerged in the Delaware Raritan Canal, authorities said.
The incident came to light around 12:24 p.m. when a kayaker spotted the submerged vehicle near Canal Road and Grouser Road and alerted authorities. According to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Franklin Township Police responded to the scene, where they discovered damage to nearby guardrails and several trees, leading them to the vehicle submerged in the canal.
Members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Dive-Rescue Team entered the water and located the car, confirming that the man was the sole occupant. He was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, and the circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.
