BOSTON, Mass. — Officers from the East Boston Drug Control Unit arrested two individuals on Tuesday evening in connection with drug-related offenses after observing a suspected street-level drug transaction. The arrests occurred around 6:15 p.m. on August 27, 2024, near 178 Border Street in East Boston.
The incident began when officers, responding to ongoing community complaints about illegal drug activity, observed a male suspect engaging in suspicious behavior. The man was seen making multiple short phone calls while scanning the area. Shortly thereafter, an unknown vehicle approached, and the suspect entered the rear passenger seat.
Believing a drug transaction had taken place, officers followed the vehicle and later stopped the male suspect after he exited. Upon searching him, officers discovered crack cocaine in his left pant pocket. The individual was informed that he would be summonsed to court for Possession of Class B drugs.
Following this, officers tracked the vehicle to 375 Border Street, where they conducted a traffic stop. The occupants, identified as Danielle Brabent, 40, of Saugus, and Edwin Vasquez, 36, of Chelsea, were immediately placed under arrest.
A search of Vasquez led to the recovery of eighteen plastic bags of crack cocaine and $734 in cash. Brabent was found with three plastic bags of crack cocaine, forty-one various prescription pills, and numerous plastic bags used for drug packaging. Both suspects were charged with possession and intent to distribute narcotics.
The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by the Boston Police Department’s Drug Control Unit to address illegal drug activity in the community. The investigation remains ongoing.
