MIAMI, Fla. — A convicted sex offender in Florida has been accused of following a 10-year-old girl and her mother through a Home Depot parking lot after allegedly making inappropriate comments to the child. Surveillance footage from the store captured the unsettling encounter, which took place on July 4, 2024.
Kevin Hurley, 60, is alleged to have first addressed the young girl while waiting in line to return merchandise at the Miami Home Depot. Although the surveillance video does not capture audio, a police report indicates that Hurley made several comments to the girl, including telling her, “I think you’re so beautiful.”
According to the police report, Hurley also commented on the girl’s appearance, saying, “I love your Mickey ears,” and remarked that she was “too big to be in that shopping cart.” The mother of the girl became concerned about Hurley’s “erratic” behavior and took a photograph of him.
The report further details that Hurley paced the aisle multiple times and appeared to be attempting to approach the girl from behind. However, he was deterred and eventually left the store without further incident.
The incident has raised alarms given Hurley’s status as a convicted sex offender, and authorities are investigating the matter. The unsettling encounter has prompted increased vigilance among parents and guardians, especially in public spaces.
