PERTH AMBOY, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Friday evening in Perth Amboy, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old motorcyclist. Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Lawrence Cattano of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced the ongoing investigation on Tuesday.
The incident took place at approximately 5:55 p.m. on August 23 at the intersection of Kamm Road and Convery Boulevard. A motorcycle operated by Michael Fernandez, a resident of Perth Amboy, was involved in a collision with two other vehicles. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found Fernandez with serious injuries. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Fernandez was attempting to turn onto Convery Boulevard when his motorcycle was struck by a sedan. The sedan, which was occupied by a single individual, then collided with another vehicle carrying three passengers. The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital on the same day. The three occupants of the second vehicle were also treated and released from Raritan Bay Medical Center.
The investigation is being led by Detective Kyle Savoia of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. “This is an active and ongoing investigation,” officials said, urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area to contact authorities.
