STAFFORD, Va. — A Stafford County man was arrested early Friday morning after being stopped for allegedly driving under the influence on Richmond Highway, authorities reported.
Deputy S. Waheed responded to a call about a suspected drunk driver on the 2800 block of Richmond Highway around 12:25 a.m. The caller reported that a Nissan was swerving on the road. Deputy Waheed located the vehicle and observed it speeding and swerving before initiating a traffic stop.
Upon questioning, the driver showed signs of intoxication and initially claimed he had consumed “one bottle” of wine before driving.
He later changed his statement, saying he had only consumed “one glass.” Despite the discrepancy, the suspect was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain his lane.
The driver was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until he was sober, according to officials.
