PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Authorities are investigating several serious incidents that occurred across Philadelphia on Sunday, August 25, 2024, including a death investigation, vandalism, a stabbing, and a shooting.
Death Investigation in West Philadelphia
At approximately 9:47 a.m., police discovered a decomposed body hanging from a tree in the woods near the 1400 block of N 66th Street in West Philadelphia. Medic 41 responded to the scene and pronounced the individual deceased at 9:50 a.m. The scene remains secured as Southwest Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. No further details have been released at this time.
Vandalism on East Monmouth Street
Police responded to reports of vandalism on the 2600 block of East Monmouth Street in the Kensington neighborhood on Sunday morning. Several homes and vehicles were spray-painted with red paint in what appears to be a targeted act of vandalism. The affected properties include five homes on the following blocks: 29XX Edgemont Street, 26XX Birch Street, 26XX E Ann Street, and two addresses on 29XX Edgemont Street. Additionally, three vehicles were also spray-painted. The East Detective Division is investigating the incident, and no suspects have been identified.
Stabbing at 1 Franklin Town Blvd
A 27-year-old man was critically injured after being stabbed in the lower back at approximately 7:55 a.m. inside the vestibule of 1 Franklin Town Blvd in the Spring Garden area. Police transported the victim to Jefferson Center City Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition. The scene is being held by investigators, and the weapon used in the stabbing has been recovered. One male suspect is in custody, and Central Detectives are continuing their investigation.
Shooting on Hart Lane
In another violent incident, a 20-year-old man was shot multiple times on the highway in the 5XX block of Hart Lane in the Harrowgate neighborhood at around 4:24 a.m. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital by Medic 8 and is reported to be in stable condition. The scene remains active, but no arrests have been made, and no weapons have been recovered.
