MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A Poughkeepsie man has been charged with multiple counts, including first-degree murder, following a fatal shooting in Manhattan earlier this summer.
Jayquan Straker, 35, of 22 Styvestandt Drive, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stem from the shooting death of 31-year-old Javier Osorio-Mejia, who resided at 18 West 29th Street in Bayonne, New Jersey.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 5:16 a.m. Police responded to a 911 call in front of 41 Greene Street, within the confines of the 1st Precinct. Upon arrival, officers found Osorio-Mejia unresponsive and unconscious, having sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Emergency Medical Services transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation, which had been ongoing since the incident, led to Straker’s arrest. According to the New York City Police Department, no additional arrests have been made at this time.
