PHILADELPHIA — A 33-year-old man was fatally shot, and a 9-year-old boy was injured in a violent incident on Friday evening in North Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. Officers from the 9th District responded to reports of a “Person with a Gun” at the 600 block of North 12th Street at approximately 6:19 p.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two victims. The 33-year-old man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, and the 9-year-old boy had been shot once in the right leg. Both victims were transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital by police. The 33-year-old man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m. The young boy is in stable condition.
According to a preliminary investigation, the deceased man was standing on the tosf at the location when a black Jeep approached. Two unidentified males exited the vehicle and chased him with firearms.
As the victim attempted to enter a nearby vehicle, where the 9-year-old boy was inside, the assailants opened fire. The boy fled the vehicle during the shooting, and the victim returned fire before the suspects fled in their vehicle.
The Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
