NEWARK, NJ — Christopher Turner, 39, of Irvington, and Melissa Barrett, 44, of Garfield, have been arrested in connection with a series of lewd acts that occurred between February and August 2024, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announced.
The first incident was reported on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Ferry Street. Two juveniles observed a man and a woman engaging in sexual intercourse in public, and a photo of the couple was provided to the police.
The second incident occurred on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at around 5:12 p.m. in the same area. Police responded to a call reporting a man with his pants below his waist having sex with a woman inside a vehicle, with both the front and rear passenger doors open, exposing their buttocks. The suspects and the vehicle matched the descriptions from the February incident.
The third incident took place on Monday, August 5, 2024, at approximately 9:25 a.m., again on the 200 block of Ferry Street. A male suspect parked a red Nissan Murano in a public parking lot, opened the vehicle’s doors, and engaged in sexual intercourse with a female outside the vehicle. Both individuals were known to frequent the area.
Following an investigation, detectives obtained warrants for Turner and Barrett. Each faces six counts of lewdness in public and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The Newark Police Department is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
