TOMS RIVER, NJ — A 56-year-old woman experiencing a medical emergency was airlifted from a Carnival Cruise Lines ship by the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday night, authorities reported. The vessel, Carnival Venezia, was located approximately 52 miles east of Toms River when the incident occurred.
The emergency was reported to the Coast Guard around 7:50 p.m., prompting a consultation with the Coast Guard Sector New York’s duty flight surgeon. It was determined that the woman required a medical evacuation for a higher level of care. Consequently, a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was dispatched.
The aircrew arrived at the ship at about 10:30 p.m., hoisted the patient aboard, and transported her to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in New Jersey. The woman’s condition has not been disclosed.
This successful evacuation underscores the Coast Guard’s crucial role in providing emergency medical assistance in maritime settings.
