MADISON, Md. — A fire severely damaged a two-story, wood-frame home in Dorchester County on Wednesday afternoon, according to local fire officials.
The blaze at 1143 Taylors Island Road was reported at 12:07 p.m. by a passerby who noticed the fire on the property’s rear deck. The Madison Volunteer Fire Department, supported by additional units, responded to the scene with a total of 45 firefighters. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but the fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damages—$30,000 to the structure and $10,000 to its contents.
Smoke alarms in the home were present and activated, alerting the occupants, although they were not inside at the time of the fire. The house was not equipped with a fire alarm or sprinkler system.
