STAMFORD, Conn. — The Stamford Fire Department has announced the passing of retired Fire Chief Anthony J. Milone, who died at the age of 86, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 9, 1938, in Stamford, Milone dedicated more than 60 years of his life to the community he called home. He attended J.M. Wright Technical School, where he honed his skills as a carpenter, becoming known for his craftsmanship. However, it was his career in firefighting that defined much of his life. Milone joined the Stamford Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become Fire Chief in 1998, a position he held until his retirement on July 1, 2000, after 33 years of service.
Chief Milone was revered for his leadership and commitment to the department, earning the respect of his colleagues and the community. His love for the fire service and his dedication to his fellow firefighters were evident throughout his career.
He was married to Marguerette Milone for 64 years, with whom he shared a life filled with joy and accomplishments. Together, they raised three sons and pursued their dreams. In retirement, Milone fulfilled a lifelong aspiration by moving to Apache Junction, Arizona, where he lived for over 20 years before returning to Connecticut in 2021.
Milone is survived by his three sons, Anthony Jr., Theodore, and Emil, and his five grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Grace Guarnieri, and other close family members. He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerette, and his brother, Theodore Milone.
A funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 29th, at St. Jude Church in Monroe. The family has requested that donations be made in his name to the Stamford Firefighters Local 786 Burn Foundation.
