GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Montgomery County Public Schools first-grade teacher has been arrested in connection with the fentanyl-related death of an adult male earlier this year. Sarah Katherine Magid was taken into custody on Monday at her Burtonsville home by Montgomery County Police and special agents from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Magid’s arrest follows a months-long investigation into the March 2024 death of the male victim in Washington, D.C. An autopsy later determined that the cause of death was fentanyl toxicity. Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Special Investigations Division, working in collaboration with DEA agents, discovered that the victim had been in Montgomery County in the days leading up to his death.
During the investigation, detectives found evidence that the victim had been in contact with a person named “Sarah,” later identified as Sarah Magid. Based on this information, law enforcement obtained search and seizure warrants for Magid’s home and an arrest warrant.
Magid was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she is currently awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled as part of a joint effort between the DEA and Montgomery County Police.
This case underscores the growing concerns surrounding fentanyl-related deaths and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address the illegal distribution of controlled substances.
