TRENTON, N.J. — One lucky lottery player in New Jersey is celebrating after winning a $1 million second-tier prize in the Mega Millions drawing held on Friday, August 16. The winning ticket, which matched five of the five white balls, was sold at Basic Food Mart located at 498 Chestnut St. in Union, Union County.
Additionally, another ticket purchased at ShopRite of Bayonne #119, 583 Avenue C in Hudson County, secured a third-tier prize of $10,000 by matching four of the five white balls and the Gold Mega Ball.
Several smaller prizes were also awarded, with 14 players winning $500 each for matching four white balls. Four of those winners used the Megaplier option, tripling their winnings to $1,500. In total, 45,189 New Jersey players collected $200,624 in prizes ranging from $2 to $600.
The winning numbers for the August 16 drawing were 22, 38, 48, 51, 61, with a Gold Mega Ball of 05 and a Megaplier of 03. The Mega Millions jackpot has now rolled over to $498 million for the upcoming drawing on Tuesday, August 20. Tickets for the drawing must be purchased by 10:45 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
