OXON HILL, Md., — The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively searching for the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Oxon Hill on Friday afternoon. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Melvin Garcia of Oxon Hill.
The incident occurred on August 16, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m. in the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road. Patrol officers responded to the scene following reports of a pedestrian being struck. Upon arrival, they found Garcia in a parking lot suffering from severe trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver struck Garcia and then fled the scene without rendering aid. Detectives believe the vehicle involved is a silver Chevrolet Avalanche, model years 2002-2006. The vehicle likely has damage to its front bumper, grille area, and driver-side headlight.
The Prince George’s County Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and driver involved. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at 301-731-4422.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver struck the victim and then fled the scene,” the Prince George’s County Police Department stated, as they continue to pursue leads in this ongoing investigation.
