FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Wall Township man has been indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on charges stemming from the fatal machete attack on his girlfriend in May, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday.
Alex J. Williams, 25, faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
The charges follow a May 23 incident when Wall Township police were called to the parking lot of the Glen Oaks Apartment Complex at approximately 9:22 a.m. Officers found a woman suffering from multiple severe injuries upon arrival.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau and the Wall Township Police Department determined that Williams assaulted the victim with a machete, inflicting the fatal wounds.
Williams was arrested at the scene and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he remains in custody. A judge granted a motion by the state to keep him detained pending trial.
