PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Louis Hoffman, 34, was sentenced to two to six years in state prison after pleading guilty to unarmed robbery in connection with an attempted bank robbery at the 66th West Street branch of Berkshire Bank. The sentencing took place on Monday, August 12, before Honorable Judge Agostini.
The incident occurred on the morning of November 20, 2022, when Hoffman entered the bank and passed a threatening note to the teller. The note demanded that the teller hand over all one-hundred-dollar and fifty-dollar bills, warning her to stay calm and refrain from any actions that might escalate the situation. Despite his demands, Hoffman fled the scene without taking any money and was arrested shortly thereafter. He later admitted to the attempted robbery.
Hoffman has a prior criminal record, including a violent armed robbery in 2017 where he used a firearm and injured a gas station attendant.
“Based on Mr. Hoffman’s history of violent armed robbery, I am pleased with today’s disposition,” said District Attorney Shugrue in a statement. The sentencing reflects the severity of the charges and Hoffman’s repeated offenses.
