ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Shawn Jordan, a former officer with the Rochester Police Department, has been sentenced to serve 10 weekends in jail following his guilty plea to the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The 40-year-old admitted to the assault, which took place in 2022 while he was still an active member of the police force.
According to investigators, Jordan forcibly raped the girl and was also involved in a separate incident of inappropriate contact with her. In addition to these charges, Jordan exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl during a Facebook video chat, where he was wearing his police uniform at the time.
In March, Jordan pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree rape and forcible touching. As part of a plea agreement, he will serve 10 weekends in jail, amounting to a total of 20 days behind bars. Jordan will also be on probation for 10 years following his release.
Jordan’s sentence has drawn attention due to the leniency of the jail time relative to the severity of the crimes. The agreement has sparked concern among community members and advocates for survivors of sexual violence.
The Rochester Police Department has not issued a statement regarding Jordan’s sentencing.
