GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A driver was seriously injured in an ATV crash on Friday evening after losing control of the vehicle on the Black Horse Pike, according to the Gloucester Township Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. on August 16, near the intersection of Clementon Avenue. Police found the ATV operator lying injured in the roadway, while the vehicle had come to rest in a nearby wooded area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver had been operating the ATV unlawfully and recklessly on the Black Horse Pike, a public roadway where ATVs are not permitted. The driver lost control, resulting in ejection from the vehicle, which continued northbound before crashing into the woods. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Several bystanders quickly assisted the injured driver and notified emergency services. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The Gloucester Township Police Serious Crash Investigation Team is leading the ongoing investigation. The Blackwood Fire Company, Virtua Paramedics, and Inspira Basic Life Support units also responded to the scene. The identities of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation and notifications.
Authorities remind the public that ATVs are designed for off-road use and that operating them on public roads is illegal and dangerous.
