BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 46-year-old man from Brick Township was arrested Thursday following an investigation that uncovered possession of child p-rnography and attempts to provide obscene material to a minor. Christian Kohl faces multiple charges, including possession of child p-rnography and attempted endangering the welfare of a child.
The investigation was initiated after a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Cyber-tips provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicated that an individual had been sending and receiving child p-rnography online.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, a high-tech crime investigation identified an IP address linked to Kohl’s residence in Brick Township. Between May and August 2024, an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl engaged in conversations with a user on the Kik messenger service. The user, later identified as Kohl, allegedly sent inappropriate nude photos and videos, despite being repeatedly informed that the recipient was underage.
On August 15, 2024, detectives from multiple agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit and the United States Department of Homeland Security, executed a court-authorized search warrant at Kohl’s residence. An initial forensic examination of his cellphone revealed several items of child p-rnography.
Kohl was arrested at his home without incident and is currently held at the Ocean County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing.
