RIVER EDGE, N.J. — A 16-year-old male from Bergen County has been arrested on charges of armed robbery, weapons offenses, and theft, according to an announcement by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. The arrest follows a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Edge Police Department.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at approximately 4:45 a.m., officers from the River Edge Police Department responded to an armed robbery at a gas station on Hackensack Avenue. The suspect, who was wearing a mask and a hooded sweatshirt, approached the station’s employee and displayed a handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants. The suspect demanded money from the cash register and the victim, fleeing the scene with several hundred dollars.
Following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department, the suspect was identified as a 16-year-old resident of Bergen County. On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives apprehended the juvenile and executed a court-authorized search warrant at his residence.
The juvenile has been charged with first-degree armed robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree theft. He is currently in the custody of the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center pending further proceedings in the Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division.
