BALTIMORE, MD— A Baltimore resident is celebrating after winning the last $50,000 instant top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s popular THE BIG SPIN scratch-off game. While he didn’t get a chance to spin the Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters, his $50,000 win was enough to bring joy to his day.
The fortunate turn of events occurred after the man stopped at Selma’s Liquors on Washington Boulevard in Baltimore following work. After playing his midday numbers, he purchased a few scratch-off tickets. Noticing a man in front of him buying four THE BIG SPIN tickets, he became curious and bought two of the $5 games himself.
Instead of scratching the entire play area, the man scratched the prize check area and scanned the tickets. The first ticket didn’t yield a win, but the second delivered a surprise.
“The first one wasn’t a winner,” he shared, smiling as he recounted his experience to Lottery officials. “But the second one said, ‘Congratulations, $50,000 winner.’”
Excited yet in disbelief, the married father asked the cashier to confirm his win. The cashier did so with enthusiasm, leaving the winner pleasantly shocked.
“When he told me that, I looked at him and said, ‘See you later,’” the winner recalled, laughing. He quickly shared the news with his wife, who responded excitedly when she answered his call. “He called and said, ‘You’re rich,’” she said, joining him at Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.
Although unfamiliar with the Big Spin Wheel aspect of the game, the winner expressed satisfaction with his $50,000 prize. As of now, he hasn’t decided how he will spend his newfound wealth.
Selma’s Liquors, located at 4600 Washington Boulevard, will also benefit from the win. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
