SEYMOUR, IN — It is with heavy hearts, deep sorrow, and unwavering faith that the Flinn family and the Seymour community announce the tragic passing of Maverick Lee Flinn, a beautiful 4-year-old child whose life was cut short while playing on his beloved family farm on June 23, 2025. His death has left a deep, aching void in the hearts of those who loved him, and the loss of this precious young soul has reverberated through the entire community.
Maverick’s life, though brief, was one filled with boundless joy, love, and innocence. Born on December 15, 2020, Maverick was a bright light in the lives of his family and all those who knew him. His radiant smile, infectious laughter, and compassionate spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of his parents, Mitchell and Mariah (Nolan) Flinn, and his beloved little brother, Maddox Fox Flinn. Maverick’s love was wide-reaching, touching friends, extended family, neighbors, and everyone who crossed his path. Even in his young age, Maverick had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen and loved, spreading light wherever he went.
A lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, Maverick was baptized in Christ on February 4, 2021, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of his faith-filled journey. His presence in the church was always a blessing, as he delighted in playing with his toy tractors and lovingly sharing them with children and adults alike. He would often bring joy to the congregation with his innocent giggles, running up and down the aisles, filling the space with the kind of pure happiness that only a child can bring. Whether it was during Sunday services or at church events, Maverick’s spirit was felt deeply, as he embodied the love of Jesus with his untainted joy and kindness.
Maverick’s life extended beyond his church family. He was an integral part of the Immanuel Lutheran Child Care Ministry, where he formed deep connections with teachers, caregivers, and fellow classmates. Even at such a young age, Maverick had a gift for making friends and making everyone feel at ease. His gentle nature and the peace he exuded provided comfort to those around him, and he quickly became a favorite among those who spent time with him.
One of Maverick’s greatest joys was spending time outdoors. The family farm was his playground—a place where he could explore and experience the world with a sense of wonder. He loved running through the fields, splashing in water, and laughing with his family. His heart was full of excitement and adventure, especially when he was spending time with his parents, cousins, and friends. Maverick had a particular love for animals and always found joy in the simple, beautiful moments in nature. Whether he was helping with farm chores or enjoying the company of his beloved stuffed bear, Maverick’s curiosity and love for life never wavered.
But it wasn’t just the outdoors that Maverick loved. He had an unmistakable bond with his little brother, Maddox. Though young, Maverick’s love for Maddox was deep and tender. His family often watched in awe as Maverick took on the role of a big brother, displaying a protective nature and a sense of responsibility beyond his years. The bond they shared was a source of pride and joy for their parents, and it is a legacy of love that will continue, even though Maverick’s time with Maddox was cut short.
Maverick’s kindness and warmth weren’t limited to family. His spirit reached far beyond those closest to him. He had a special way of making others feel at ease, whether it was his cousins, aunts, uncles, or friends. His laughter was infectious, and the simplicity of his joy was something everyone admired. The love he gave was unconditional, and it was clear that Maverick was loved just as deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His selfless nature, innate curiosity, and the way he lit up any room he entered made him a beloved child in the community, and his sudden loss has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
In addition to his parents and brother, Maverick is survived by his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Holly Nolan, paternal grandparents, Craig and Stephanie Flinn, maternal great-grandparents, Dean and Shirley Pratt, Bill and Margaret Nolan, paternal great-grandparents, Pat and Linda Flinn, Charles Fox, his aunts and uncles, Zach and Katie Flinn, Justin and Taylor Nolan, and his cherished cousins: Baker Nolan, Owen Flinn, and Harrison Flinn. His extended family and numerous friends are also left to grieve the loss of the sweet, loving boy they had come to know and adore.
Though Maverick was taken from this world far too soon, he has joined his maternal great-grandmother, Shirley Gentry, paternal great-grandmother, Nancy “Nanny” Fox, and cousin, Jeremiah McCulley in eternal peace. It is comforting to know that Maverick is now in the arms of those who went before him, surrounded by the love of family in the presence of God.
In the face of this heartbreaking loss, Maverick’s family and community have shown an outpouring of love and support for one another. Plans for a vigil and memorial service to honor Maverick’s memory are underway, and the community is invited to come together to remember the young boy who brought so much joy, laughter, and light into their lives. Attendees are encouraged to wear bright colors—especially pink and yellow, Maverick’s favorite colors—as a symbol of the joy and life he embodied.
Maverick’s passing is a painful reminder of the preciousness of life and the importance of cherishing each moment with those we love. His life may have been short, but it was filled with love, happiness, and faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his story will continue to inspire acts of kindness, compassion, and joy. In honor of Maverick’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that support the safety and well-being of Indigenous children, such as the **National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center or the Choctaw Nation Children and Family Services.
As the community continues to mourn and heal from this unimaginable loss, they are united in their love and remembrance of Maverick. His spirit will live on in every heart he touched, and his memory will forever be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Maverick Lee Flinn. You will never be forgotten.
