OCEAN CITY, NJ – Tropical Storm Debby is creating a dangerous situation across the Jersey Shore today and Ocean City has warned residents and vacationers to stay out of the ocean.
With Tropical Storm Debby churning the Atlantic, Ocean City, is taking ocean safety seriously. The Ocean City Beach Patrol has issued a warning about rapidly changing ocean conditions, including rising wave heights and an increased risk of rip currents.
Waves greater than 4 feet can create dangerous shore breaks, making the surf zone particularly hazardous. Beachgoers are urged to always check in with Surf Rescue Technicians (lifeguards) before entering the water and to swim only in areas deemed safe.
If lifeguards advise against swimming, it’s crucial to stay out of the ocean.
