NORTH BERGEN, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that two suspects have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Monday, August 5, in North Bergen.
James Baker, 24, from Secaucus, faces multiple charges including murder, felony murder, robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Arwa Elmohdli, 21, of North Bergen, has been charged with felony murder as an accomplice, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are currently detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility awaiting their initial court appearances.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday when North Bergen Police responded to reports of an injured man at the intersection of Meadowview Avenue and 61st Street. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Juan Ortiz of North Bergen, was found with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at Palisades Medical Center at approximately 9:40 a.m. The investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is ongoing.
