Reynoldsburg, OH – A 45-year-old mother, Laquandra Williams, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 18 years for the murder of her 21-year-old son, Jahaad Hughes. The sentence was handed down by Fairfield County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard E. Berens on Monday.
Williams reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, pleading guilty to one count of murder and one count of assault connected to her son’s death earlier this year. Her jury trial had been scheduled for August 13.
Fairfield County Prosecutor Kyle Witt commented on the case, stating, “No sentence imposed by the court will fill the void left by the senseless murder of Jahaad Hughes at his mother’s hand. But Laquandra Williams has been held to answer for her crimes, and justice was served here today when she was sentenced to life in prison.”
The incident occurred on the afternoon of February 19, 2024. Reynoldsburg police responded to a call about shots fired outside an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Drew Heights Place, following an initial attempt by Williams to stab her son, which was thwarted by others.
