LYNN, MA – Zachary Vozzella, 26, faced arraignment in Lynn District Court, charged with the murder of 25-year-old Brianna Welsh, also from Lynn.
Police discovered Welsh deceased with multiple sharp force injuries at her residence yesterday morning, following a distress call. Reports indicate Welsh was pregnant at her time of death.
The arrest came after a collaborative effort between the Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit under the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
Vozzella, identified as the sibling of Welsh’s ex-boyfriend, faces additional charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Brendon Vozzella, 24, was previously apprehended for domestic violence on July 30 and is out on bail facing charges related to that incident. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday, August 6. Zachary’s arrest occurred while his brother was detained, suggesting he committed the murder during that time.
During his court session today, Zachary Vozzella entered a not guilty plea and was denied bail. The proceedings were overseen by Judge David E. Frank, with defense by Francisco Napolitano. A follow-up court date is set for September 10.
Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker expressed deep sympathy for the loss of Welsh and her unborn child, emphasizing the community’s commitment to justice.
Lynn Mayor Jared C. Nicholson and Police Chief Christopher Reddy also conveyed their condolences, stressing the city’s support for the victim’s family and their dedication to solving this grave crime.
