MAPLEWOOD, NJ—The Maplewood Police Department has reported multiple vehicle-related incidents over the past few days, including a motor vehicle theft and several vehicle rummages.
On July 26, 2024, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Boyden Avenue and Springfield Avenue following a report of a motor vehicle theft. An unknown suspect stole a 1999 Suzuki motorcycle that had been left parked with the key in the ignition.
Between July 25 and July 28, 2024, the police also received multiple reports of vehicles being rummaged through on Bowdoin Street, Prospect Street, Oakview Avenue, Springfield Avenue, Concord Avenue, and Woodside Road. The details of items taken or damaged have not been disclosed.
Additionally, on July 28, at approximately 6:00 PM, officers responded to another incident at Springfield Avenue and Rutgers Street involving a scooter crash. Initially reported as a hit-and-run, further investigation revealed that no other vehicles were involved. The 42-year-old female scooter rider was found injured in the street, suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital by South Essex Fire Department ambulance.
The Maplewood Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and urges residents to take precautionary measures, such as removing keys from unattended vehicles and securing valuables.
