WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fatal traffic crash occurred early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington, leaving one driver dead and another pedestrian injured.
On Sunday, at approximately 3:32 a.m., a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a female and carrying a female passenger was traveling eastbound on East Capitol Street in the 5200 block. The vehicle struck several cars and overturned, landing on its roof.
A male and female passerby stopped to assist the occupants of the overturned vehicle. During this time, a 2013 Lexus GS350, also traveling eastbound, struck both the male pedestrian and the Malibu. The Lexus driver fled the scene on foot.
The male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both occupants of the Malibu were also taken to an area hospital, where the driver, identified as 34-year-old Taneisha Parker of Capitol Heights, MD, later died from her injuries.
Around 4:26 a.m., a person matching the description of the Lexus driver was found at a DCFEMS firehouse on 49th Street, Northeast, with injuries consistent with a traffic crash. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Terrance Gordan of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry and Leaving After Colliding. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
