John McQuillen Obituary, Death; – New information has surfaced regarding the ongoing homicide investigation of a retired reserve deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, who was discovered deceased in Middletown.
On Wednesday, March 12, 65-year-old John McQuillen was found shot outside in the 1200 block of Winter Springs Court at approximately 7:30 a.m. He succumbed to his injuries at the University of Louisville Hospital. McQuillen had dedicated 10.5 years of service to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office before retiring in July 2021.
During the investigation, Middletown police, in collaboration with Louisville Metro police, discovered a suspicious package at the crime scene. The bomb squad from LMPD responded and conducted a controlled detonation of the package.
With the help of the public, law enforcement was able to locate a vehicle believed to be linked to the case. On Thursday, Middletown police reported that several individuals have been interviewed, and the investigation remains active. Authorities have stated that they believe there is no threat to the community related to the shooting incident.
Around 11 a.m., Louisville Metro police apprehended 43-year-old Brandon McQuillen. According to court documents, he was present in the vicinity of the homicide investigation and was found to be in violation of an Emergency Protective Order (EPO). Additionally, he was in possession of an AR-15 rifle.
He faces charges for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and for violating an EPO/DVO. While police have not confirmed a direct link between Brandon McQuillen’s arrest and the homicide of John McQuillen, the arrest citation indicates that Brandon is John McQuillen’s son.
