LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County is mailing out new property assessments for the first time in more than 50 years.
About 50,000 property owners will receive reassessments this Friday, and another 50,000 next week.
Officials stress these are not tax bills, they will help set 2026 tax rates.
If you disagree with your new value, you can request an informal review, then file a formal appeal if needed.
To handle appeals, the county is hiring appeals board members. The job pays $24,000 a year.
Certified evaluators are automatically eligible, while others must complete a six-hour training course.
