CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Democratic Congresswoman Alma Adams heard from Charlotte constituents Thursday night in her first town hall since the second Trump administration began.
Adams addressed concerns about cuts to federal agencies and potential slashes to health care benefits.
“What can our federal workers do in place of these firings?” one attendee asked.
“This budget is proposing major cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. What can people do to fight back?” another questioned on Thursday night.
“Our most asked question is can you talk more about the future of the Department of Education,” Democratic Congresswoman Alma Adams said.
Charlotte voters had several questions for Adams Thursday night during her first town hall of the year. Constituents looked for answers as the Trump administration works to reduce the size of the government.
“I can tell you that members of my party, we’re going to be pushing back. Even though Republicans have the majority in the House, it’s very slim. So if anything gets passed or [inaudible]…It’s going to take some support from both sides of the aisle,” Adams told voters at the Mayfield Memorial Missionary Baptist Church Thursday night.

Monica Williams is an Army veteran. She attended the town hall after Tuesday’s congressional address from the president left her uneasy and fearful for the future.
“I’m concerned as a parent, as a grandparent, and as a teacher. So, I’m very concerned about a lot of the issues as well that are affecting our community,” Williams said.
Shea McDonnell, 32, and Bill Rose, 37, attended for the same reason. They were hoping to hear solutions on how Democratic congressional lawmakers were going to help people.
“And there were none. None were given,” Rose said.
Instead, they say they leaving more frustrated and left with more questions.
“I think that it’s extremely disappointing to come forward and hope of asking questions and getting answers in return. Instead, we’re told to tweet. To tweet on Elon Musk’s platform is crazy to me. While he is an unelected official who has access to all of our information right now, and to be told to call our congresspeople and call all of our members when we’re sitting in a room looking to ask those questions, people are calling, we’re not getting answers,” McDonnell said.
Adams agreed there may be spending the federal government can cut but there’s a way to do it. She’ll continue to fight to keep people’s rights and benefits. She says maybe there will be a chance for negotiation.
Several Republican lawmakers’ town halls nationwide have been highly publicized since President Trump’s orders, and Republican voters asked similar questions like those Thursday night.
