BROOKLYN, NY – A 38-year-old Brooklyn resident, Florian Oltmann, was pronounced deceased on Friday, July 26, 2024. Oltmann, who lived at 277 North 7 Street Apt 2R, was previously involved in an assault incident that occurred in Midtown North Precinct earlier in the week.
The New York City Police Department is currently seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect connected to the assault on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, around 2:40 AM. The incident began when an unidentified male, riding a moped on the sidewalk, collided with a 56-year-old man standing outside 627 9th Avenue. Following a verbal altercation, the suspect punched the older victim, causing him to lose consciousness.
When Oltmann attempted to intervene, he too was struck in the face and rendered unconscious. He was initially taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in critical condition, while the 56-year-old was transported to Mount Sinai West in stable condition.
The suspect, who fled the scene on a black moped, remains at large. The police have released media depicting the individual and are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
