PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a wave of vehicle break-ins and vandalisms that have swept through Center City over the past few months. Authorities are calling on local residents and business owners to stay alert and report any unusual activities.
The spree of incidents, primarily characterized by smashed car windows and thefts from vehicles, began in May 2024. Reports have pinpointed several hotspots including the 2900 and 2600 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue on May 23 and May 30, respectively. Other affected areas include the 200 block of Brown Street on June 16, the 700 block of North 5th Street on June 21 (where an arrest was made), and several incidents throughout July on North 19th Street, North 22nd Street, Walden Street, and North Front Street.
Isaac Tate was arrested on July 13, 2024, following investigations linked to repeated thefts on North 5th Street and the 1200 block of North 7th Street. The arrest has provided a breakthrough, although many cases remain unresolved.
The department has obtained surveillance footage from various scenes and is intensively analyzing the evidence. Detectives are urging anyone with camera footage from these areas to review their recordings and contact law enforcement with any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the remaining suspects involved in these criminal activities.
