It is with profound sorrow that the community mourns the loss of Calaiyah Kennedy Barfield, who tragically passed away on May 21, 2025, at the tender age of 13. Her unexpected departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the wider Alexandria community, where she was cherished for her bright spirit and loving nature.

Calaiyah’s journey was deeply intertwined with the love and memories of her family. She was predeceased by her beloved grandfather, Kerry Cheney, Sr., as well as other dear family members including her great-grandparents Ike and Laura Jenkins, and her great-aunt Kathy Hall. Though her time with them was cut short, the bonds they shared continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

She is survived by her mother, Courtney Barfield; her stepfather, McArthur Robertson Jr.; and her sister, Kamyra Robertson. Alongside them, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members continue to carry the weight of this devastating loss. The profound grief experienced by her family is felt by many in the Alexandria community who recognized Calaiyah as a young girl filled with kindness and warmth.

On May 31, 2025, family and friends gathered at the Starlight Baptist Church in Alexandria to honor Calaiyah’s memory during a viewing and funeral service. The outpouring of support was overwhelming, with many attendees offering heartfelt condolences and reflections on Calaiyah’s impact. The church was filled with stories of her bright smile, generous heart, and the love she freely shared.

Social media tributes have also provided a window into the collective mourning. One close family friend wrote on Facebook, “You will always be remembered for your light and the love you gave to all who knew you.” Such messages underscore the lasting impression Calaiyah made despite her short life, highlighting her ability to touch and inspire those around her.

In the wake of this tragedy, Calaiyah’s family has expressed a heartfelt desire to keep her legacy alive in a meaningful way. They encourage friends, acquaintances, and the wider public to honor her memory through contributions to charities that support children and families in need. This call to action not only celebrates Calaiyah’s compassionate spirit but also ensures that her memory continues to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

The loss of a young life is always a reminder of the preciousness of every moment, the fragility of life, and the enduring power of love. Calaiyah’s story resonates beyond her immediate circle, touching all who hear it with a mix of sadness and hope. The Alexandria community stands united in mourning but also in support of one another as they navigate this painful chapter.

Through prayers, shared memories, and acts of kindness, Calaiyah Kennedy Barfield’s light remains shining. Though she is no longer with us physically, her spirit endures, a beacon of love, joy, and inspiration for her family and the many lives she touched.

As her family and friends move forward, they do so with the strength of community and the memory of a remarkable young girl who, despite her brief time on earth, taught those around her the true meaning of love and resilience.

Rest in peace, dear Calaiyah. You will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved you. Your legacy of light and love will never be forgotten.
