BRONX, NY—Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced today that 60-year-old Jacqueline Ratliff has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter following a fatal stabbing in their apartment building.
The incident, which occurred on May 25 at approximately 10:03 am inside 1752 Walton Avenue, resulted in the death of 32-year-old John Welgoss, Jr.
During the arraignment before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Brenda Rivera, Ratliff was remanded to custody with a court return date set for September 30.
The altercation that led to Welgoss’s death began as a dispute in the hallway, where he was fatally stabbed with a kitchen knife, his throat slashed.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas W. DiCostanzo of the Homicide Bureau, supervised by Christine Scaccia and James Brennan, with overall direction from Theresa Gottlieb. The District Attorney also acknowledged the efforts of Trial Preparation Assistant Yoisy Jimenez, and Crime Victim Advocates Laura Ramirez and Emelis Santana, as well as NYPD Detectives Colin Higgins and Michael Pando for their roles in the investigation.
