ROCKY GAP STATE PARK, MD—In a coordinated rescue operation, Trooper 5, a helicopter from the Maryland State Police, was called into action just after 9 pm on Sunday to assist in rescuing three hikers lost in Rocky Gap State Park. The hikers found themselves in a challenging situation due to the steep terrain of the ravine where they were located.
Responding to a request from the Natural Resources Police, Trooper 5’s crew performed a precise hoist operation to safely extract the hikers. They were then transported to a nearby landing zone. Once on the ground, the hikers were evaluated by fire department personnel to assess any needed treatment.
The successful rescue highlighted the effective collaboration between the Natural Resources Police, the fire department, and the crew of Trooper 5. The Baltimore Pike Volunteer Fire Co.4 and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources – Natural Resources Police were also involved in the rescue efforts. A photo capturing the moment was provided by the Baltimore Pike Volunteer Fire Co.4.
