On March 4, 2025, two teenagers were tragically killed in a shooting during the Mamou Mardi Gras concert. The victims were identified as Bryson Green, a 17-year-old student from Cecilia High School and the second-youngest of six siblings, and Alaya Christian, an honor student and athlete at Lafayette Renaissance Charter High School. Bryson was known for his infectious laugh and vibrant personality, while Alaya was admired for her dedication to academics and leadership. In addition to the two fatalities, up to 11 others were injured in the shooting. Authorities are following leads and have a person of interest in the case, though investigations are ongoing.
