Chicago Gas Station Death – 41-Year-Old Chicago Man Big Johnno Charged Following Devastating Gas Station Shooting

A 41-year-old man, identified as Jonathan Robinson, also known by the nickname “Big Johnno,” is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting and killing another man at a gas station — reportedly because the victim had a conversation with Robinson’s girlfriend, Jernera Williams.

The deadly confrontation occurred at an undisclosed gas station location in Chicago and has left the community shaken. According to investigators, the altercation appears to have stemmed from a brief and seemingly benign exchange between the victim and Williams. Police say the incident escalated rapidly, ending in a fatal act of gun violence.

Robinson was arrested Wednesday, May 14, in the South Shore neighborhood by officers with the Chicago Police Department. Following his arrest, he was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. In addition, he faces a separate felony charge for unlawful manufacture/delivery of cannabis in an amount ranging between 30 and 500 grams — a significant quantity suggesting possible distribution.

    The Incident

According to preliminary police reports and witness statements, the victim, whose identity has not yet been publicly released pending family notification, was seen speaking briefly with Jernera Williams at a gas station pump. The conversation was reportedly non-confrontational and short-lived.

Moments later, Robinson, who was either inside the gas station or nearby, approached the scene visibly enraged. An argument quickly ensued between the two men. Witnesses described Robinson as “aggressive and confrontational,” accusing the victim of disrespecting his relationship. The situation escalated when Robinson allegedly drew a firearm and shot the victim at close range.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted to render aid, but the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

    Arrest and Charges

Robinson fled the scene following the shooting but was tracked down and apprehended by police days later on the city’s South Side. Upon searching his residence and vehicle, authorities allegedly uncovered a quantity of cannabis consistent with distribution, prompting the second felony charge.

He is now being held without bond as he awaits arraignment. Prosecutors have already signaled their intent to pursue the murder charge aggressively, arguing that the crime was unprovoked, avoidable, and showed a blatant disregard for human life.

    Community Response

The killing has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over impulsive acts of violence in public places — especially in situations involving jealousy or toxic relationships. Community members and local leaders are calling for stronger awareness around conflict resolution and mental health support to prevent similar incidents.

“Taking someone’s life because they spoke to your partner is not only tragic, it’s senseless,” said a local South Shore activist. “This is not about self-defense. This is about insecurity and violence, and it has no place in our city.”

Family members of the victim have described him as a kind and respectful individual who “would talk to anyone” and never posed a threat. They are now mourning his loss and calling for justice to be served.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Chicago Police Department is continuing its investigation, examining surveillance footage from the gas station and gathering additional witness accounts. Officials have not yet confirmed whether Jernera Williams will face any charges or if she has been officially questioned as part of the case.

Robinson’s criminal history, if any, has not been made public at this time. Authorities did indicate that the murder weapon has not yet been recovered and are asking for public assistance in locating it.

    Call for Tips

Anyone with information about the shooting, Robinson’s movements before or after the incident, or the whereabouts of the firearm is urged to contact Chicago Police Department detectives or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

This case adds to a troubling pattern of interpersonal disputes ending in deadly violence — an issue that city officials are actively working to address. More updates will follow as this case proceeds through the legal system.
