DORCHESTER, MA – A routine traffic stop by Boston Police Department’s District B-3 officers led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm early Saturday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 12:38 AM at the intersection of Capen St. and Fuller St. in Dorchester.
Officers observed a Jeep Cherokee speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign on Selden St. Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers approached the vehicle and noticed the driver acting erratically and sweating profusely. The driver claimed he was fleeing from a nearby altercation, prompting officers to request he exit the vehicle for further investigation.
During the investigation, the driver fled on foot, leading to a brief chase. An officer who remained at the vehicle discovered a black 9mm ghost gun loaded with seven rounds under the driver’s seat and alerted radio operations. The pursuit was ultimately called off when officers encountered a large, hostile crowd at a nearby party.
The suspect was identified but escaped capture. He has been issued a citation for speeding, failure to stop, and refusal to identify himself. Charges pending include carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
