ROCHESTER, NY — A mass shooting at Maplewood Park on Sunday evening has left one person dead and six others injured. Rochester Police were called to the scene on Bridge View Drive at approximately 6:20 p.m. following reports of a large gathering where shots were fired.
Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple victims with gunshot wounds and observed several people fleeing the area. One 20-year-old individual has succumbed to their injuries, while another victim is in life-threatening condition. Five additional individuals sustained relatively minor injuries and have been hospitalized.
Transport to the hospitals varied, with some victims driven by private vehicles and others by ambulance throughout the evening. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed as authorities are in the process of notifying the family.
In response to the incident, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriffs, Rochester Police, and New York State Police, were present at the park. It was confirmed that a party was taking place at the time of the shooting.
The Rochester Police Department (RPD) is seeking assistance from the public. Anyone with video footage of the event is urged to send it directly to the RPD Major Crimes Section, Crime Stoppers, or via email, and to refrain from posting it on social media.
