Jamal Calbert Obituary, Death;- A 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the hospital following a shooting incident in Stockton early Wednesday morning, according to police reports. Family members have identified the victim as Jamal Calbert.
Law enforcement officials responded to reports of the shooting in the 600 block of Dovewood Street in the Valley Oak District at approximately 1:45 a.m. Calbert was discovered in a garage with a gunshot wound to his torso. His grandmother, Nora Roots, characterized Calbert as “pretty easy going.”
Roots revealed that Calbert’s father also fell victim to gun violence. “I experienced this ten years ago,” she stated. “His dad, my son, faced the same fate a decade ago.” As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
“There is still a significant amount of evidence to be gathered,” remarked Omer Edhah of the Stockton police. “Numerous individuals need to be interviewed, and the situation is still developing, requiring a thorough investigation to uncover the details.” This marks the second instance of a 17-year-old being killed in Stockton this year. The first was Julian Martinez, who was shot and killed last month near the skatepark in Anderson Park.
Two other teenagers were apprehended in relation to his death on February 18. Additionally, a 14-year-old already in juvenile detention for unrelated weapons charges was arrested in connection with Martinez’s case, according to police. So far this year, Stockton has recorded five homicides, a decrease from seven during the same timeframe last year, as reported by law enforcement.
